References to Final Fantasy IV

1. If you buy the Heavensward Collector's Edition, one of the items you'll get is Cecil's Dark Knight helmet and Kain's Minion from FF IV. The letter in which these items come in also says: "May it take you to a time where four was two and two was four", a reference to the fact that Final Fantasy IV was named Final Fantasy II in american shores when it was released.

5.The ADS from the raid Binding Coils of Bahamut - Turn 2 is a reference to the CPU boss from Final Fantasy IV.

6. The Antitower's final boss is Calcabrina. This is a reference to the same Calcabrina from Final Fantasy IV, her introduction music is even an arrangement of Dancing Calcabrina, her boss theme from Final Fantasy IV.

Dancing Calcabrina (FF XIV)

7. The Mist Dragon from The Burn is a reference to the same Mist Dragon from Final Fantasy IV. The Mist Dragon is the first boss from FF IV and is the eidolon of Rydia's mother, which when slain by Kain and Cecil, also killed her. This causes Rydia to be filled with grief.

8. Hamon Holyfist, the mentor of the Pugilist questline shares several similarities to Tellah the Sage from Final Fantasy IV in that both are crippled by their age and are trying to recover their memories, with Hamon's story not being as deppresing as Tellah.

10. Male Ninja's idle pose is based on Edge.

11. Male Dark Knight's battle pose is based on Cecil's.

12. Giott, the NPC that gives the Healer Role Quest, is based on Giott from Final Fantasy IV.

13. There are three fairies hanging around Il Mheg. If you get close, you'll hear them say "And we'll call it Delta Attack!". Delta Attack is the name that the Magus Sisters name their strategy to use Reflect on one of their members to bounce off spells to the party.

The Magus Sisters' design from Final Fantasy X closely resemble fairies as well.

14. The Demon Wall from Amdapor Keep is based on the Demon Wall from FF IV

15. In Pharos Sirius (Hard) you will find a boss named Progenitrix, which is based on the Mom Bomb (in fact, that's her name in the japanese version of XIV) boss from Final Fantasy IV. Once she explodes she spawns 3 gray bombs and 3 bombs just like in Final Fantasy IV.

18. Partway through the fight in the Seat of Sacrifice, Elidibus will summon other Warriors of Light to aid him. Their composition is based on the party of Final Fantasy IV, consisting of a Dark Knight (Cecil), a Summoner (Rydia), a Bard (Edward), A lalafell White Mage and Black Mage (Palom and Porom), a Warrior (Cid) and a Ninja (Edge). The Lalafell duo also dualcast Meteor and the Ninja uses Tidal Wave, further reinforcing the reference.

24. The Magus Sisters are the bosses for the Tower of Zot, instead of being named Mindy, Sandy and Cindy, they're instead named Minduruva, Sanduruva and Cinduruva to better fit the theme of Thavnair. As in FF IV, Minduruva specializes in damaging magic, Sanduruva in supportive magic and physical skills and Cinduruva in her high HP and restorative magic, since when fought in the final boss of Tower of Zot she will resurrect the other sisters if killed first. In their final battle, they will reference their Delta Attack by act of Cinduruva using reflect to, as the name implies, reflect but also amplify the attacks her sisters launch at her.

The trailer Midlander Hyur (most commonly known as his fan-given name of Meteor) turns into a Dark Knight at the tail end of the Shadowbringers trailer, but then turns back into a Paladin in the Endwalker one. The second boss against Lugae references the fact that if you defeated Barnabas first in IV, Lugae would then take into the form of a cyborg. He also says similar lines while doing so.

45. Zeromus, the final boss of the Post-Endwalker storyline is based on the final boss of FF IV, Zeromus. As a sidenote, one of his battle attacks is called Nostalgia
