References to Final Fantasy XI

 1. The original five races of FF XIV are based off of the races of FF XI.




2. The design of the Chocobos in FF XIV is mostly taken from their design in FF XI.



3. The design of Garuda strongly resembles that of Avatar from FF XI.



4. The first name of Raubahn Aldynn, captain of the Inmortal Flames is the same as Raubahn, captain of the Inmortals from FF XI.



5. The gatekeeper for the Ninja headquarters in Eastern La Noscea speaks the word "Ayame" and the password you have to respond to him so you can enter the building is "Kaede". Ayame and Kaede were important figures in the Ninja questline of FF XI.






6. The Pugilist Guild's backstory refers to a woman named Cornelia as the basis for the creation of the Pugilist guild, as hers is the style that the Pugilist Guild teaches. This refers to Cornelia from FF XI.





7. The mammet in the Goldsmith questline named Gigi is said to be the first mammet ever. His real name is Mnejing.



8. Reisen Temple uses the same music as Reisenjima from Final Fantasy XI. It also includes references to Tenzen and multiple bosses interlinked in a similar concept.

9. Several Beast Tribes use upscaled models from FF XI.



10. The starting cities' beast tribes were possibly derived from their FF XI counterparts. The Yagudo are flightless birds like the Ixal, the Mamool Ja look similar to the Amalj'aa and the Goblins (more specifically the Moblins) are reminiscent of the Kobolds.








11. The Ghrah Luminary found in Pharos Sirius (Hard) is identical to other Ghrah's in Final Fantasy XI. such as Jailer of Fortitude, but dark orange instead of silver.




12. One of the B Rank hunts from A Realm Reborn is named Ovjang, a reference to one of Aphmau's automatons from FF XI.



13. Diabolos, a recurrent boss in FF XIV, is based on his Final Fantasy XI incarnation. When fought, Diabolos uses Nightmare, Camisado and Ruinous Omen. The former two being his Blood Pact abilities and the third one being his Astral Flow skill from Final Fantasy XI.

14. Fenrir, the final boss of Snowcloak, is based on the Fenrir from FF XI, and it has some of the same abilities.



15. The bosses from Wanderer's Palace (Hard) are based on the notorious monsters Lancelord Gaheel Ja, Sagelord Molaa Ja and Gulool Ja Ja from Final Fantasy XI.







16. In the Lost City of Amdapor (Hard), the enemies Void Monk, Mana Idol and Mana Pot are based on the Sea Monk, Dolls and Magic Pot enemies from Final Fantasy XI.







17. Among NPCs, Thaumaturges are predominantly Lalafels. Much like the Tarutaru of Windwurst are strongtly tied to Black Magic, particularly Shantotto.



18. Final Fantasy XIV has a lot of references relating to Professor Shantotto. Specifically Shatotto, who was the former bearer of the Black Mage soul crystal and used the stone to close the Voidgate. Shatotto was also the owner of the Stardust Rod relic weapon and when obtained, the achievement you get is named "Ohohohohoho", referencing her laugh.




19. Black Mage's Victory Pose references Shantotto's laugh.




20. The Collab Event Burgeoning Dread was centered around Shantotto coming into the world of Eorzea, you could also get a Wind-Up Shantotto as a reward.



21. There was another FF XI event for FF XIV, this one was based on Iroha's arrival on Eorzea and it was called The Maiden's Rhapsody. The reward was gear resembling Iroha's armor.




22. The names of some of the weapons of the Grand Companies' characters reference weapons and characters from FF XI.



23. One of the NPCs in the Weaver's Guild will sing "Distant worlds together, miracles from realms beyond..." which are part of the lyrics to Final Fantasy XI's Distant Worlds.



24. The names of the artifact and vintage armor sets share the name with the artifact gear from FF XI.



25. Numerous Miqo'te names are taken from FF XI.

26. Gilgamesh wields the Hauteclaire sword and the Ridill scimitar from FF XI when you fight him in FF XIV.
