Final Fantasy XIV: Landmarks of the Shroud

CENTRAL SHROUD LANDMARKS

Bentbranch Meadows (21.7 - 22.1)

A town with the blessing of the Elementals, dedicated to the caring and breeding of chocobos. The settlement was built post-calamity shortly after Moogle's Gift Mounts, a stable of chocobos, was established in the location. The chocobos are stated to be "Ishgard's finest" and the balloon tethered to the main building was an Ixal war vessel that got tangled in a tree and claimed by the chocobokeepers once the Ixali riders abandoned it. There's also fields to grow Gysahl Greens.

The Matron's Lethe (18.1 - 19.9)

Due to geological upheavals formed by the calamity, a cliff formed in the Central Shroud, yet this root endured upon it, forming a bridge. Due to this the Gridanian saw it as a blessing and took to calling it The Matron's Lethe.

Dunstan's Spire (16.9 - 19.0)

A scaffolding surrounding a crater made by the calamity.

Amberscale Rock (11.1 - 20.1)

Rock shaped like a dragon, made with amber-like substance similar to the ones found in the Gelmorra ruins, not much known about it. This location is a remnant of 1.0, and some of the Conjurer quests of 1.0 happen in this location. Of note is that a dragon seemed to have attacked an Ishgardian Knight while inside the cave the Amberscale Rock is in, and that an NPC called Morys is heavily connected to this place.

There's a ton of theories as to this place, I highly recommend watching the Remnants of the Realm video about it.

NORTH SHROUD LANDMARKS

The Gelmorra Ruins - North Shroud (23.7 - 24.8)

The Gelmorra Ruins are a location inside the North Shroud relating to the ancient underground civilization of Gelmorra. Made as such by the fear the Hyur and the Elezen of the Black Shroud had of angering the Elementals, who did not want them in the Shroud after the great flood of the Sixth Umbral Era.

While in 2.0 the ruins look damaged due to the events of the Calamity, in 1.0 they looked mostly intact, and they were still in the North Shroud, albeit in the northernmost section of it as opposed to the middle.

SOUTH SHROUD LANDMARKS

Issom-Har - South Shroud (16.9 - 21.9)

The ruins of Issom-Har were once the residential district of the ancient civilization of Gelmorra and the calamity tore a hole that leads into the ruins. Nowadays however the place is known for something else... it is the location from which to enter a famous (presumably) Gelmorran dungeon: The Palace of the Dead.

References to Final Fantasy XV

All of the stuff in this page is from the event "A Nocturne for Heroes" crossover event between FF XV and FF XIV.

1. In said event you can get Noctis Lucis Caellum's gear and hairstyle.

References to Final Fantasy XII

1. Members of the Ascians who worship Zodiark are named after the Scions of Light mentioned in the profiles of Espers in FF XII.

Since I'm a lazy ass here's a list from the FF wiki with the names of both the Scions of Darkness and the Scions of Light to prove it.

References to Final Fantasy VIII

1. The card game, Triple Triad, is exactly the same Triple Triad from Final Fantasy VIII. In FF VIII you used the game to recieve cards that you could either keep or turn into items that could also be turned into Magic. In here it's just for fun.

The theme that plays in Triple Triad matches in FF XIV is the same one that plays when you play Triple Triad in FF VIII: Shuffle or Boogie

References to the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII

 1. Biggs, Wedge and Jessie, three engineers in Cid's company, Garlond Ironworks, are all named after the AVALANCHE members of the same name. While Biggs and Wedge are characters in many Final Fantasy games (named after characters from Star Wars) the inclusion of Jessie makes it likely they based them after their Final Fantasy VII incarnations.

References to Final Fantasy IV

1. If you buy the Heavensward Collector's Edition, one of the items you'll get is Cecil's Dark Knight helmet and Kain's Minion from FF IV. The letter in which these items come in also says: "May it take you to a time where four was two and two was four", a reference to the fact that Final Fantasy IV was named Final Fantasy II in american shores when it was released.

References to Final Fantasy III

1. Cid nan Garlond's airship shares the name of one of the airships from Final Fantasy III, the Enterprise, which itself is also based on the ship Enterprise from Star Trek.

References to Final Fantasy II

1. When you join the Scions of the Seventh Dawn in their endeavours to preserve the land of Eorzea, they give you a password so that people can tell you're with them. This password is "Wild Rose", the same password the Rebel Army lead by Princess Hilda of Final Fantasy II used to acknowledge each other.

References to Final Fantasy I, Dissidia: Final Fantasy & FF Origin: Stranger of Paradise

Since Dissidia and Stranger of Paradise happen in the same world as/are connected to Final Fantasy 1 I decided to mix them all together instead of giving them a page for the only few references they have.

REFERENCES TO FINAL FANTASY I

1. The helmet and armor of the original design for the Warrior of Light can be obtained by purchasing the Collector's Edition and as loot from the Labyrinth of the Ancients respectively.

The design is based on the Yoshitaka Amano artwork for the Warrior class in Final Fantasy I. He's also the canonical representation of Final Fantasy I, as shown by Dissidia.
